Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information that Vnev (“we,” “us”) collects through this website and its forms, newsletter and related communications (the “Site”). It does not apply to websites or services run by others, even if the Site links to them. By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. Terms used here have the meanings given in our Terms of Use.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us.

Applications: your email address and everything you enter in an application form, which may include your name, location, background, education, work history, work samples, answers to our questions, links (such as to a video, LinkedIn or other profiles), and anything you add under additional information.
Communications: your email address and the content of any message you send us.
Newsletter: your email address, if you subscribe.

Please don’t send us sensitive information, such as government ID numbers, financial account numbers, health information, or information about race, religion, sexual orientation or similar characteristics. If you choose to include it, you consent to our processing it as described in this policy.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, our hosting provider and the services we use may automatically receive technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the referring page, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard for any website.

Information from other sources. When we evaluate an application, we may review publicly available information about you, such as your public profiles, websites and news coverage, and information from people you refer us to.

3. Cookies and tracking

The Site does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites or build advertising profiles. The Site loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address and browser information when you visit. Because we do not track you across sites, the Site does not change its behavior in response to browser “Do Not Track” signals. If we ever add analytics or other tracking, we will update this policy first.

4. How we use information

to receive, review and evaluate applications, and to make decisions about positions and partnerships;
to communicate with you, including responding to your messages and following up on applications;
to send you the newsletter and other updates you ask for (you can unsubscribe at any time);
to operate, maintain, secure and improve the Site, and to detect and prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents;
to keep records of applications and communications;
to comply with legal obligations, respond to legal requests, and establish, exercise or defend legal claims; and
for any other purpose we describe to you when we collect the information, or with your consent.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We have not done so in the past 12 months. We share personal information only as follows:

Service providers that process information for us, such as Google (Google Apps Script, Google Sheets, Gmail and Google Fonts), our website host, and any email or newsletter provider we use. They may use the information only to provide services to us, or as described in their own privacy policies.
Evaluators, such as Vnev team members and advisors who help us evaluate an application, who we expect to treat it responsibly.
Legal and safety: when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, subpoena or other legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Vnev, our users or others, or to investigate fraud or violations of our Terms.
Business transfers: in connection with forming an entity to carry on Vnev’s activities, or with a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, information may be transferred to the successor, which will be bound by this policy for that information.
With your consent or at your direction.

We may also share information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it cannot reasonably be used to identify you.

6. How long we keep information

We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including evaluating applications, keeping in touch with applicants we may want to work with in the future, keeping records, and meeting legal obligations. When we no longer need it, we delete or de-identify it. You can ask us to delete your information at any time (see section 9).

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. However, no website, internet transmission or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of any information. You send information to us at your own risk. If we learn of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by law.

8. International visitors

Vnev is based in the United States, and the information we collect is stored and processed in the United States and wherever our service providers operate. Data protection laws there may differ from those where you live. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we process your personal information on the basis of your consent (for example, when you subscribe), to take steps you request before entering into an agreement (such as reviewing your application), for our legitimate interests in operating the Site and evaluating opportunities, and to comply with legal obligations.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us to: tell you what personal information we have about you and how we use it; give you a copy of it; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to our use of it; or withdraw consent you have given. To make a request, email vnevdev@gmail.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, and we may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. You may use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, and we may ask for proof of their authority. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also complain to your local data protection authority.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time by using the link in any newsletter email or by emailing us.

10. California residents

If you are a California resident, you have the rights described in section 9 under the California Consumer Privacy Act, to the extent it applies to us. In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information, for the purposes described in section 4 and from the sources described in section 2: identifiers (such as name, email address and IP address); professional or employment-related information; education information; internet or other electronic network activity information; and any other information you choose to include in an application. We disclose these categories for business purposes to the categories of recipients described in section 5. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would give you a right to limit it.

Shine the Light. California Civil Code section 1798.83 lets California residents ask for information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes. We do not make such disclosures.

Minors. If you are a California resident under 18, you may ask us to remove content or information you submitted through the Site by emailing us. Removal may not ensure complete deletion, for example if someone else has copied the content, and we may keep information where the law requires or allows.

11. Children

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, do not use the Site or send us any information. If you are 13 to 17, you may use the Site only with a parent or guardian’s involvement and consent. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, please contact us.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date above. If we make material changes, we may also notify you by other means, such as by email. Your continued use of the Site after an update means you accept the updated policy.
